POSITION: Natural Resources Biologist I (Seasonal Contractual – No Benefits)

LOCATION: Fisheries Service, Annapolis, MD

HOURLY RATE: $14.47

CLOSING DATE: April 22, 2010

CONTRACT PERIOD: May 12 through January 12, 2011

JOB DUTIES: The MD Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service, Coastal Fisheries Program is currently accepting applications for Natural Resources Biologist I. This position provides field and technical support to Maryland’s Coastal Bays Finfish Investigation program. The candidate selected will assist the current biologists in monthly trawl surveys throughout Maryland’s Coastal Bays, twice-per-year seine surveys throughout Maryland’s Coastal Bays, and data entry. The position will spend up to three weeks a month conducting field surveys on a 25-foot vessel out of the Fisheries Service office in Ocean City, Maryland.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.

Experience: Preference will be given to candidates who have up to two years experience trailering and operating small vessels. Experience with Microsoft Access is also preferred.

Note: Additional professional experience conducting research and analysis in the fields of biology, biochemistry, environmental science, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management or zoology may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required degree.

Licenses: Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile or other motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess the appropriate operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
