Eat, Drink & Learn Series

Join us for our continued series of fun, educational opportunities for the 21+ crowd! Share a specialty drink with friends, eat a delightful dinner, then adjourn to our Fern Rooms for an engaging discussion. All events begin at 6:30 p.m., with the presentation starting promptly at 7:15. The cost is $20 per member, and $30 per non-member.

McKay Jenkins authored "What's Gotten into Us? Staying Healthy in a Toxic World" and edits "The Peter Mattiessen Reader", an anthology of American nature writing.

He is the Cornelius Tighman Professor of English, Journalism and Environmental Humanities at the University of Delaware.

 

He has a Ph.D. in English from Princeton University, a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University and a B.A. in English from Amherst College.

He lives with his family in Armagh Village on the Baltimore City/County line while teaching an interdisciplinary course at UD on the history, literature and ecology of the Chesapeake. His course includes taking students paddling on the Susquehanna River.

Friday-Turn No School Day to Helping the Environment Day

Have children in Prince George’s County schools?  Then you know that they don’t have school this Friday, Oct. 18.   WSSC and Prince George’s County Forestry Board in partnership with M-NCPPC is offering a service learning opportunity on Friday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to Noon in front of the West Hyattsville Metro Station, 2700 Hamilton, Hyattsville.

We will be gathering acorns to send to the Maryland State Tree Nursery-as well as picking up trash. According to recent studies, oaks provide food, shelter and cover for more species of wildlife than any other tree. WSSC will provide gloves and bags.  You may want to bring water to drink.   For more information, contact WSSC at 301-206-8233.

Are you a teacher or know a teacher eager to learn how to inegrate agriculture into the curriculum in fun, hands-on, engaging ways to teach everything from physical education to art to STEM? If so, please register to attend this FREE event where nearly 20 agricultural education providers including Wegmans, 4-H, CCBC, MAEF, the Irvine Nature Center, Spoutwood Farm, UMD-Extension, Real Food Farm, Farmer Stan and more will be on hand to provide you with take-home resources, information about professional development opportunities and field trips, and engage you in hands-on activities. Local snacks and beverages will be served at this FREE event. meals and how you can do the same. Learn about what produce is in season and then enjoy a meal from Salernos featuring local, seasonal ingredients. Choose a light lunch or dinner with appetizer. Take home a new, healthy recipe
